B-Zone: Latest Bollywood Gupshup

12 March 2009 by Kaynath Parvez

Amrita Arora married new boyfriend Shakeel Ladak

Amrita Arora married new boyfriend Shakeel Ladak in a lavish Catholic ceremony at Bandra Church, followed by a gathering at the Olive restaurant in Mumbai on 4th March 2009. The sexy heroine has had a string of boyfriends in the media spotlight the past few years, with Upen Patel, Ashmit Patel, and Usman Afzal to name but a few. However, dressed in an off-white vintage Ashley Rebello gown draped in rice pearls and diamonds, the Golmaal Returns actress Amu, as she is fondly called, seemed elated surrounded by the who’s who of the industry, including best friend Kareena Kapoor, big sister Malaika Arora, Saif Ali Khan, Katrina Kaif, Dino Morea, Priyanka Chopra, Diya Mirza, Hrithik Roshan, Arjun Rampal, and Lara Dutta. Her Sangeet night prior to the wedding was choreographed by none other than Bollywood’s dance maestro Farah Khan, and the night was hosted by jeeju Arbaaz Khan’s sister, Alvira Agnihotri. The newly-weds had their Nikaah on Friday 6th, and are now off on their much-awaited honeymoon.

And they’re not the only ones. The on-off on-off wedding between Ayesha Takia and long-term sweetheart, restaurateur Farhan Azmi, finally happened in a private Nikaah ceremony at Farhan’s restaurant, Koyla, in South Mumbai on 1st March 2009. This was followed by a grand white-themed reception the next day at the Cricket Club of India lawns. The couple, who were initially due to wed on Christmas Eve but had postponed their wedding following the tragic Mumbai attacks, have finally taken the bull by the horns and tied the knot. Abhishek and Jaya Bachchan, Reitesh Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, and Suniel Shetty were all there to wish the newly-weds, and given that the groom’s father Abu Azmi is an active politician (leader of the Samajwadi Party), many political heavyweights were also present at the occasion.

Mumbai’s Massakkali, Sonam Kapoor, became the first actress to be honoured with a specially-designed gown as a gift from the Paris-based fashion house, Chanel. Chanel had spotted Sonam’s sensational photographs in Elle and Verve Magazine, and decided that she was the most deserving of a special gown from their ‘celebrity closet’. They flew over 3 gowns for Sonam to choose from, and the lucky Indian beauty chose the simplest of the three: an elegant white off-shoulder gown. The overwhelmed young actress, daughter of senior actor Anil Kapoor, exclaimed that she felt like Cinderella before going to the ball, and proudly displayed her beautiful gift at the recent Filmfare Awards last Saturday.

Speaking of Sonam, Bollywood’s new darling appears to be fed-up of being cast in her traditional roles, following playing characters ‘Sakina’ and ‘Bittu’ in Saawariya and Delhi 6. And since no one has come forward to cast her in a contrasting role, who better to come to the rescue than Daddy dearest? Anil Kapoor has indeed stepped up to make his daughter’s dreams come true with the film Ayesha: a Bollywood interpretation of Jane Austen’s famous novel, Emma. Apparently, Sonam has wanted to play the role of the rich, easy-going and flamboyant protagonist for a long time. Devika Bhagat, writer of Bachna Ae Haseeno, has been given the task of editing the script and storyline to suit the Indian audience. Alongside Sonam will be Abhay Deol, newcomer Arunodoy Singh, and VJ Cyrus Sahukar.

Finally, on an international note- Sajid Nadiadwala’s forthcoming romantic comedy, Kambakth Ishq, stars Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor in pivotal roles. The film also features Aftab Shivdasani and Amrita Arora in supporting roles. However, the real hype of the movie comes with the roping in of Hollywood stars in abundance. The film is rumoured to have Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards, Brandon Routh, Arnold Shwarzenegger, Beyonce Knowles, and Carmen Electra in cameo roles, all playing themselves. British Band RDB are also apparently part of the star-cast. The storyline is on these stars ultimately helping the hero, an Indian stuntman in Hollywood, achieve his romantic mission in finding his leading lady. This will be the first Indian film to be shot within Universal Studios in Los Angeles, California, with shooting also taking place in Venice, Italy, and of course Mumbai. The movie is set to release this coming May, and is being anticipated to be the biggest blockbuster of 2009.
