Central forces pulled out of Baramulla

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has pulled out the CRPF from Baramullah in the Kashmir valley. The decision comes after four protesters were killed in alleged CRPF firing over Monday and Tuesday.

A murder case has now been filed against the CRPF jawan who was allegedly involved in the firing.

This makes Baramullah the first town in Jammu and Kashmir where central forces will have no role in maintaining law and order. This will be the sole responsibility of the state police.

The CRPF has been facing a lot of flak for its handling of protests in the valley and the state government has been under growing pressure to use the CRPF only for fighting militants, what it is actually trained for.

Baramullah has seen two days of violent protests over the alleged molestation of a woman by policemen.
